Testimonials - Music Assist
Early in 2018 I was starting the process of getting 6 weeks of annual leave approved to travel overseas. I was very concerned about leaving my work load behind and was not confident that the school would be able to find someone appropriate to take over whilst I was away. The staff member that was replacing me needed to be well versed in Music Monitor (something that no one else in the school knew how to run), and the general day to day queries and duties of a Performing Arts Coordinator.
Luckily, in discussions with Alison Carr earlier in the year she suggested that there may be a possibility for her to provide a temp that could replace me whilst I was away as she had many connections in this exact field. This is where Kate came into the picture. The thing I loved most about this solution was that Kate had worked as a music administrator for a number of years and was very experienced with Music Monitor. I was able to leave behind a few general notes and know that my work would pick up right where I left it in Kate’s capable hands. Simple things such as replying to emails daily, or forwarding them to the correct staff members to reply to, meant that I didn’t come back with hundreds upon hundreds of emails. From experience with working in a Music department, Kate already had a wealth of knowledge surrounding typical queries from parents and staff, and was able to solve many questions without assistance.
It was such a good feeling to be able to go away and know that the department was in safe hands and would run as smoothly without me there. The handover when I came back was very smooth and Kate kindly took notes throughout her time at Mentone Grammar and shared any existing concerns with me once I returned. Luckily for me and this is a testament to Kate, there were very few. I want to thank Alison Carr and Kate McConville for all of their assistance and hard work in supporting the department whilst I was jet setting overseas. I hope that many others choose to use this service as I did and I have no doubt that I will be calling on them both again for my next trip.
